HTC Facebook Smartphone Rumors Return
Here come the Facebook smartphone rumors again, with the latest reports saying HTC is developing a customized smartphone with the social network, possibly debuting as early as the third quarter of 2012.
Digitimes reported that Google’s move to partner with Samsung on the next-generation Nexus smartphone, rather than with HTC, which produced the Nexus One, led HTC to turn its attention to Facebook.
Sources told Digitimes the new, Android-based smartphone will feature a platform dedicated to Facebook, which will enable users to access all of the social network’s functions.
HTC debuted two smartphones in February 2011 with Facebook features and blue F keys, the ChaCha and Salsa (pictured), but they were only released in Europe and Asia.
Readers: Do you think there will ever be a Facebook-dedicated smartphone, or is it not necessary, given the prominence of Facebook’s mobile applications for all platforms?
